The Slingers have self-released a number of singles and two EPs, which were met with adoring reception. 2020 saw the release of their first 7″ single, ‘The Cruellest Cut’, with Flightless Records. The double A-side release consists of ‘Kind Hearts’, a lonesome cowboy ballad featuring Spike Fuck, and the title track, ‘The Cruellest Cut’, a synth-drenched punch of ‘Motel Pop’. A full-length LP is tipped for release with Flightless in 2022.
Influenced by the music of Bruce Willis and the films of David Bowie (so they say), The Slingers have sought through their music to balance and synthesise a number of oppositional artistic forces: lyrics that are both tongue-in-cheek and haltingly sincere, live energy that borrows simultaneously from Elvis and Angel Olsen, and a sound that is as comfortable producing outlaw country as it is exploring drum machines and synthesisers.
